Mumbai Ready for High-Intensity Competition
Mumbai, December 24/ Sports Reporter -Bal Toraskar
With the approval of the Maharashtra Kho-Kho Association, and under the joint organisation of the Mumbai Kho-Kho Association and Shri Samarth Vyayam Mandir, Dadar, the 39th Sub-Junior Boys and Girls (Under-14) State Kho-Kho Championship and Selection Trials will be held from December 25 to 28, 2025 at the Mumbai Physical Education Board (Bharatiya Krida Mandir), Sahakarnagar, Wadala, Mumbai. The official group draw has been announced, and a total of 24 teams from across Maharashtra will participate in this much-awaited state-level tournament.
Strong Competition for the Title
In the Sub-Junior Boys category, defending champions Dharashiv, while in the Sub-Junior Girls category, defending champions Solapur, will enter the competition with the aim of retaining their titles. However, with several strong and well-prepared teams placed in every group, the championship is expected to witness highly intense competitive fast-paced matches, marked by speed, agility, and smart tactical play throughout the tournament.
Grand Opening Ceremony
The championship will be officially inaugurated on Thursday, December 25, at 5.00 pm, at the competition venue in Wadala. The opening ceremony will be held in a festive atmosphere in the presence of several prominent dignitaries, including Shivkumar Lad (Trustee, Shri Samarth Vyayam Mandir), Anand Pednekar (Pednekar Jewellers), Prof. Dr. G. K. Dhokrat (Principal, BPCA College of Physical Education), Dr. Chandrakant Jadhav (General Secretary, Maharashtra Kho-Kho Association), Sachin Godbole (Working President), Adv. Govind Sharma (Treasurer), Adv. Arun Deshmukh (President, Shri Samarth Vyayam Mandir and Mumbai Kho-Kho Association), Surendra Vishwakarma (Chief Executive), along with office bearers of the Maharashtra and Mumbai Kho-Kho Associations.
Pathway to National Selection
This state championship holds special importance as it will serve as the selection trial for the upcoming Sub-Junior Boys and Girls National Kho-Kho Championship. For young players, the tournament provides a valuable platform to showcase talent, secure national selection, and take a major step towards higher-level competition.
